Hello everyone,
Conference co-convener, Karin Hendricks, and I would like to invite you to consider submitting a proposal to present at the upcoming Music Spirituality and Wellbeing Conference, Fostering Wellbeing in Times of Global Crisis. Given the uncertainty of travel due to the pandemic, this conference will be a virtual conference hosted by Boston University, Boston Massachusetts, USA. The conference will take place July 5-7, 2021.
Given the conference theme, we invite presentations and performances that explore the intersections of music education and spirituality, as well as one or more of the following areas of emphasis:
● Building Musical and Spiritual Communities Online
● Climate and Environmental Degradation
● Compassion and Care
● COVID-19
● Decolonizing Pedagogies and Practices
● Developments in Music and Public Worship in a Global Crisis
● Interfaith and Inter-Spiritual Peacebuilding
● Music and Spirituality and the Global Economy
● Race, Class, Gender, and/or Sexuality
● Singing, Spirituality, and Wellbeing in a Virtual World
● Teaching Music with Compassion in a Virtual World
● The Therapeutic use of Music Online
Interested authors should submit an abstract of 900 words or less (excluding references) by December 11th. Conference presenters will be notified by February 1, 2021. Papers selected for the conference may be considered for an edited volume on the topic to be included in June-Boyce Tillman’s Music and Spirituality book series with Peter Lange. Please see the full call for more details.
Please feel free to share the call widely. We hope that the virtual format will provide for greater inclusivity and access than an in-person conference might allow. Scholars, researchers, musicians, theologians, clergy, music teachers, music and expressive arts therapists, and relevant stakeholders are warmly invited to participate.
Well wishes,
Tawnya D. Smith & Karin S. Hendricks
