Arnaldo Huff

Arnaldo Huff is a professor of Religious Science and a musician based in Juiz de Fora (MG, Brazil). Since 2009, he has taught at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in the fields of Protestantism, theory of religion, and religion and art. His main research interests focus on religion and Brazilian popular song, based on the works of artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento, and Gilberto Gil, in dialogue with academic authors like Rubem Alves and Paul Tillich. His studies point to the correlation between religious experience and aesthetic-musical experience. He has degrees in Theology (Seminário Concordia, 1993) and History (Unijui, 2002), a Master’s in Theology (Escola Superior de Teologia, 1996), a PhD in Science of Religion (Federal University of Juiz de Fora, 2006), a PhD in Social History (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, 2012) and a post-doc in Religious Sciences (Federal University of Sergipe, 2021). Among other publications, his article “Bossa nova as existential turn: No more blues!” was published in Numen, Revista de Estudos e Pesquisa da Religião (v. 25, n. 2, 2022). Arnaldo is also a guitar player, composer, and music producer at Boca da Mata – Home Studio.
