Conference Theme: “Ecologies of Practice in Music, Spirituality, and Well-Being.”

Conference Objectives: This event aims to deepen our understanding of how music, spirituality, and well-being intersect. Key objectives include exploring music’s role in spiritual experiences, its impact on well-being, and its presence in diverse spiritual traditions. We also examine the connection between music, ecology, and well-being, along with cultural diversity and music’s role in spiritual expression.

Conference Topics: Topics of discussion encompass music’s role in facilitating spiritual experiences, the influence of acoustic environments on well-being, music’s place in religious rituals, its integration into contemplative practices, cultural diversity in spiritual music, and the relationship between music, ecology, and well-being in the face of environmental challenges.

Conference Topics: We invite contributions related to, but not limited to, the following

themes:

1. Music and Transcendence: Exploring how music facilitates spiritual

experiences and fosters a sense of connection to the divine.

2. Sonic Environments and Well-Being: Investigating the impact of acoustic

ecologies on mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

3. Rituals, Ceremonies, and Musical Performance: Analyzing the role of music in

religious and spiritual rituals and its influence on participants' sense of well-

being.

4. Mindfulness, Meditation, and Music: Examining the integration of music in

contemplative practices and its effects on mindfulness and stress reduction.

5. Cultural Diversity and Spiritual Expressions in Music: Exploring how different

cultures utilize music to express and cultivate spirituality and well-being.

6. Ecological Sustainability and Sonic Practices: Discussing the relationship

between ecological consciousness, music, and well-being in the context of

environmental challenges.

Submission Guidelines: We welcome submissions for individual paper

presentations (20 minutes), panel discussions (40 minutes), workshops (40 minutes),

reflections on practice (20 minutes), case studies (20 minutes), and artistic

performances (20 minutes). For each presentation there will be 10 minutes added for

questions. Abstracts (250-300 words) with a short CV should be submitted to Katya

Bessarabov at 24675679@mynwu.ac.za by the submission deadline. All

submissions will undergo a peer-review process to ensure the quality and relevance of the content.

 Type of presentation (individual paper presentations, panel discussion, workshop, reflections on practice, case studies, and artistic performances)

 Name/s of presenter/s

 Affiliation (i.e. principal place of work/study, or, if appropriate, ‘Independent’)

 Country of residence

 Email address/es

 Description (all submissions must be between 250-300 words and submitted as Word documents. Proposals should describe how they relate to the conference theme.

 Biography (75 words). This should start with your name and must be in prose (i.e. not a list of appointments). For submissions with multiple authors, please give biographies for all presenters and chairs, if appropriate.

Conference Venue: The conference will be held exclusively online based in North

West University, Potchefstroom South Africa. We hope to provide a conducive
